May Days in Barcelona – “Keep Yourself Healthy”

/

Vocal nonchalance and a chugging post-punk rhythmic pulse assemble on the consuming “Keep Yourself Healthy,” a new single from Sheffield-based May Days in Barcelona, led by violinist and multi-instrumentalist Simon Clowes. A stylish production drives into an intriguing structural rise, gradual though wholly satisfying with textured guitar clanging and melodic unity within the brass and strings.

The post-punk bass feeling adds well amidst the hypnotic vocals and percussion, with gradual guitar accompaniments during the “be a little better to yourself,” sequence driving to a satiating blast of distortion. The warming culmination establishes a melodic, rock-forward textural backing that enamors into a resonating, concluding refrain.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2023’ Spotify playlist.
