Melancolony – “Colorless”

/

“Colorless” is a moody success from Melancolony, the project of Justin Loudermilk, based in Santa Cruz, California. The songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and humanities teacher crafts a strong atmospheric pull with this one.

The jangly guitar tones and chilling, Twin Peaks-esque synth tones open with mystique, building comfortably into the lush vocals amidst thumping bass and slight acoustics. A hypnotic, alluring production is evident throughout, especially when the mysterious brass tones hit in the final moments.

“Colorless” serves as the opening track on Melancolony’s new EP, Dreaming Backwards:

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2023’ Spotify playlist.
