A hip-hop single that compels in its themes surrounding the “pursuit of one’s purpose,” “SOMEBODY” comes via Proklaim, an artist from Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. A solo artist for over a decade, Proklaim worked on the track alongside Lu Diaz (mixing) and Chris Athens (mastering) — representing the first recording session of 2023 for the artist.

Twinkling keys and a suave bass line complement a multi-layered vocal presence, with pumping-up “yeah,” repetition consuming alongside the “gotta go beyond the norm,” refrain. The “ride for the cause,” verses show a savvy, rhythmic precision alongside the thumping bass and playful keys, driving seamlessly into the aforementioned melodic refrain. Hypnotic and confident, “SOMEBODY” is a quality offering from Proklaim, whose seize-the-day ethos and heady accompanying beats bolster a stellar vocal preciseness.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2023’ Spotify playlist.
