Bessie Deakin – “Magic Man”

/

A debonair production that deftly balances balladry and hooky vintage pop, “Magic Man” is an alluring single from London based singer/songwriter Bessie Deakin. Lush keys and dynamic vocals, tonally reminiscent of Tennis’ Alaina Moore, drive elegantly alongside buzzing guitars and glitzy organs into the irresistible title-bearing refrain.

Backing twinkling and suave piano complement a reassuring bass line, as Deakin lets out “there ain’t no way anyone else could understand, he’s my, he’s my magic man.” The adoring lyrical prowess and pairing vocal tone plays enjoyably into the organ-laden “liquid sugar,” expression, in further adoration of this “magic man.”

“So tell me baby, what do you think?” Deakin opens during the alluring bridge, evolving into a tender guitar solo that fully consumes (and continues the Tennis comparison). “Magic Man” is a catching pop ballad success.
