A recent track from Philadelphia-based artist Beth Arnold Gilbert, “I Was Not Airtight” shows a riveting rock sound with enveloping qualities. The track marks the follow-up single to Gilbert’s debut solo EP, Gimme Back My Castle. Now with a full band is in place, Gilbert is unveiling a consuming sound — with this track and the newly released “Ditch This Crowd” — that furthers the melodic rock sound of the prior EP.

Initial lyrics bemoan being “stuck in slow motion,” amidst a sludgy guitar arsenal, escalating with snarling vigor during the title-touting suaveness. The track is a gripping success from Beth Arnold Gilbert, who has more singles on the way later this year.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.
