Sunburnt Sky + Reno Powers – “I Really Wanna Get to You”

//

Conjuring a buzzing synth-forward anthemic stronghold, “I Really Wanna Get to You” is a new collaborative single from the artists Sunburnt Sky and Reno Powers. A powerful fusing of guitars and synths dazzle in the introduction, subduing into a more guitar-laden playfulness alongside the initially lush vocals.

“Turning up to turn it down,” the vocals let out. “You’re a lovely sound.” The hooky, revved-up chorus re-emerges with seamless intent thereafter. The pop-minded sequence in general shows shades of MGMT with its hooky ferocity and synth/guitar interplay. “I Really Wanna Get to You” is another stellar track from the collaborating duo, who also teamed up on the 2022 single “Sweet Fire.”

The Utah-based project Sunburnt Sky is fronted by Mike “Seels” Seely, who grew up in San Diego inspired by alt-rock icons like Radiohead, U2, and INXS. More reggae and pop inspirations arose whilst digging into acts like Sublime and UB40, with some time as a teenager in the Dominican Republic also fostering a love for Bob Marley. “I Really Wanna Get to You” is from Sunburnt Sky’s new album, The Drift, streaming below:

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Pop.
