Off Contact – “Dressed To Kill”

Sioux Falls-based band Off Contact deliver a deliciously dark rock sound on “Dressed To Kill,” whose intermingling of brooding post-punk and excitable rock makes for a riveting success. Representing the third single from their upcoming album Pearls Before Swine, out on June 16th, “Dressed To Kill” compels in its atmospheric, moody development.

A playful, bouncy bass and murky guitar tones concoct a post-punk inspiration in the opening sequence, lifting up into an impassioned rock charisma past the one-minute mark; this rise reminds fondly of early Wire, circa Pink Flag. The production envelops in both moments of nocturnal feedback, like 01:39, and exhilarating ardency. “Dressed To Kill” has me firmly anticipating Pearls Before Swine.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of June 2023’ Spotify playlist.
