Doc Rhombus – “Make Believe”

/

A new track from Minneapolis-based solo artist Doc Rhombus, “Make Believe” touts a suave, jangly sound amidst dreamy yearning for “something I wanna believe.” “I wrote, recorded, produced, and mixed all parts of “Make Believe” in my home studio while going through a difficult family time and trying to make sense of our hyper-individualistic society,” the artist explains.

Serene, jangly guitar tones were apparent throughout the artist’s gorgeous 2022 album Retroactions, and “Make Believe” reaches even deeper into the more rock-minded territory; for the project, this single “also reflects an artistic pivot away from electronic production, inspired by the idea of eschewing the “artificial” and returning to the “natural.””

“I’m tired of chasing American dreams,” the vocals let out longingly, gliding into mellower verses with laid-back keys and twangy guitars. The cathartic “I found something,” feels reflective of a new purpose of meaning, and embracing such within a chilled-out aesthetic. “Make Believe” is another stellar showing from Doc Rhombus.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2023’ Spotify playlist.
