Utah-based band English Budgies unveil an impassioned sound on “Had Enough,” whose alt-rock ferocity invokes a ’90s nostalgia. Blistering guitar distortion exudes a fuzzy entrancement to open. Confident vocals admit “it was just a matter of time,” with swelling escalation. “I’ve had enough today!” they declare during the ensuing rise, as the guitars grow with vigor.
Per the band: “The song is about putting your foot down when you need to put yourself first. It’s about being willing to give yourself closure, express frustration and pain, and allowing yourself to move on.”
“Everybody’s trying to beat you down,” marks an especially captivating sequence, showing a dreamier contemplation amidst twangy guitars. “Don’t look back,” they caution further as the distortion picks up again. Infusing elements of alt-rock and punk with a ’90s throwback embrace, “Had Enough” is a compelling success from English Budgies.
