Lapdog – “Yellow Belly”

//

“Yellow Belly” is a smoothly captivating single from Salt Lake City-based artist Lapdog. A stream-of-conscious exploration into “ideas of unresolved relationships / friendships,” the track stirs with its breezy guitar work and lush vocal entrancement. A hazy, summer-set charm is abundant throughout its standout production.

“I let my mind roam free,” the vocals let out calmly after ocean-minded reflections. The ensuing “I think of times from before,” glides into crisp, jangly guitars with effortless engagement. Multi-layered vocals enthuse in the opening segment, caressing in its reflective pairing and slight tonal differences. The key-laden touch during the “just a little bit more,” adds to the glowing, laid-back qualities.

A tender guitar emphasis past the one-minute turn shifts seamlessly back into the “lonesome on the ocean,” ruminations. The “take a trip,” section adds an uptick in vibrancy, and then into a satiating finale with wordless vocal affections and fluttering guitar twangs. “Yellow Belly” is a gorgeous production from Lapdog.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2023’ Spotify playlist.
