“Deep Inside” is a moving, expansive single from Australian singer/songwriter LokkisKott, the solo project of Lachie Alford. Muted guitar tones find accompaniment in frolicking acoustics, as a yearning vocal presence reflects on “the best of times.” The acoustics and twangy guitar understatements conjure a sound reminiscent of The Wrens initially, while the vocal escalation — “I just want you to feel their pain,” — echoes a gripping, emotive pull.

“For Deep Inside, I wanted to create something unique and powerful that would ‘whoa’ the listener, but wanted room for growth as well,” he explains. “I feel like there is a lot of exciting potential, and I’m driven to keep that fire lit!”

Citing the late Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) as his biggest vocalist influence growing up, LokkisKott touts a stirring vocal presence that assumes a dominant focus. “This is tearing me apart,” he sings during a more subdued section, bridging various points of intensified emotion. The dynamic range between unbridled emotion and calmer retrospection results in a climactic sense of emotional intrigue throughout “Deep Inside.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2023’ Spotify playlist.
