Bad Bubble – “Clover Mess”

/

A stirring track featuring soaring vocal emotion and a majestic string-laden production, “Clover Mess” is a powerful showing from Bad Bubble. The solo artist is prolific, with over 100 releases since the project formed in January 2022. Bad Bubble’s backstory involves loss and tragedy; he lost his daughter while training with the US army, and the impact was understandably devastating. He then retreated, living in seclusion for the past decade while coping with this enormous loss.

“After losing everything I had, I longed for normalcy,” the artist explains. “Anything normal now is greatly wanted and longed for. That is what this song is about. The cover has a normal apple, and the one I would pick from a tree. When that is normal, nothing is normal. But I also have no one or nothing to compare it to so I’ve lost track of what normal is.”

Per Bad Bubble, “all my songs, including this one, stem from the absence of others.” The lyrics on “Clover Mess” — “I know myself all too well,” — echo that isolation, complemented by some gorgeously melodic songwriting. “I never rest for a day,” the vocals admit amidst an understated piano-laden twinkling, serving as a break from the dreamy, emotional depth. Melancholic strings combine with a mellow bass line and electronic-minded percussion, as impassioned vocal layers intertwine; the track thoroughly consumes in its profound emotional depth and accompanying atmospheric production.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2023’ Spotify playlist.
