Galaxy Shores’ newest single, “Melancholy Daydream,” takes the listener on a nouveau psychedelic rock journey. Sounds of rain and lonely guitar riffs open the sonically analogue song, cascading through beach-y crescendos, waxing and waning through wistful vocals. The lyrics and tune mesh well, holistically representing a general disdain and dread of being trapped in day-to-day motions, the blasé coast through life, and the looming fear of being cast as a failure.
Galaxy Shores has established itself in a new wave of modern psychedelia music. Artists like Tame Impala and Mac DeMarco mix from their humble abodes and tool around with synthesizer sound. Josh Herren of Galaxy Shores is no different; the drums, bass, guitar and synths are all played, mixed, and mastered by him at his home studio in Simi Valley, CA.
This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2023’ Spotify playlist.
