MARSEY – “Just Friends”

/

“Just Friends” is the serene pop debut from MARSEY, who describes the effort as “about playfully suggesting to a long time friend that you might want to explore a Summer of romance together to see where things go.” Subdued guitar twangs and mellow keys bolster a stuck-in-between vocal feeling, expressing from the get-go that “I think that we could be more,” following an initial friendship.

In hoping for a detour into a deeper connection, the track plays with a genuine, heartfelt yearning. “If you just give it a chance, then maybe we could make a detour,” they convey further. The laid-back, nocturnal ruminations resonate aesthetically and melodically, crafting a summer-friendly smitten taking inspiration from acts like Toro y Moi, The 1975, and Gus Dapperton.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2023’ Spotify playlist.
