Vendaval’s newest single, “Ripple Blue,” was recorded, produced, mastered and mixed by the Brooklyn-based artist, alongside the rest of his discography. The song treads a line between moody surfer rock and dream-pop, and embodies what a sunset on a gloomy day in a humid beach town feels like.
Opening lyrics “the birds are gliding on the last breath of the sun,” personify the scene and set the vibe of the track, which aims to explore the overarching question: “what if the ocean fell in love with a swimmer who one day never came back?”
Vendaval’s use of the Fairlight synthesizer breezily echoes Kate Bush, and his subdued, muffled vocals inscribe the lyrics into the listener’s head, succumbing them to a dreamy daze throughout the song’s duration.
This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2023’ Spotify playlist.
