VISIONS of HELL – “Domestic Playground”

//

The debut single from London-based quartet VISIONS of HELL, “Domestic Playground” touts a gorgeous array of sounds — from flourishingly melodic chamber-pop to punchy electro-pop sharpness. Lyrical depictions of “the pros and cons of adulthood,” stir amidst a production whose sophisticated versatility reminds fondly of Matthew Herbert.

Responsive vocal layers and a peppy rhythmic background builds enticingly to the lovely title-touting hook, “domestic playground, because we love to have our friends come ’round,” — expanding thereafter into a series of orchestral flourishing. The gorgeous vocal work and string arrangements also prove reminiscent of Field Music. Stylish and hooky, “Domestic Playground” is a fantastic debut from VISIONS of HELL.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Pop.
