Pilgrimage Years – “Afloat”

/

Swedish act Pilgrimage Years engross with a shoegaze-forward appeal on “Afloat,” the third song from their upcoming full-length debut album.

An eerie soundscape of guitar feedback invigorates into a shoegaze-friendly wall of distortion, setting up for the track’s remainder with a blissfully textured rock sound. Vocals emerge as the guitars assume a sporadic character, rather than the ceaseless energy prior. The gorgeous, distortion-heavy embrace re-energizes as these vocals pass. “Afloat” touts a climactic shoegaze sound that’s representative of Pilgrimage Year’s knack for both soundscape and melody.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Shoegaze.
