Rose Rutledge – “Inhale”

/

Brooklyn-based artist Rose Rutledge crafts an immersive success with new single “Inhale,” traversing with an evolving, meditative glow throughout. Wordless vocals invigorate throughout amidst shimmering woodwinds and patient percussive accompaniments. The meshing of flute and lo-fi hip-hop rhythmic touches make for an accessible, transformative allure — emphasizing the power of Rutledge’s self-proclaimed “flutescapes.”

The initial usage of breathe-in, breathe-out pacing and effects send chills — set gorgeously amidst the flutes and vocal reflections that range from bellowing mystique to heavenly choir-like effects. Ruminating percussion rounds the one-minute turn with further intrigue, as sporadic vocal pushes emerge cohesively. The steady textural swell culminates in a ghostly-feeling final minute, fit for serene contemplation.

The captivating track excels in its capturing of the inhale-driven symbolic motif, representing “a universal symbol of renewal, transition, and acceptance of new beginnings.” Rutledge impressed earlier this year with the track “Own World” and continues that strong momentum with “Inhale.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2023’ Spotify playlist.
