desk lamps – “Little Tokyo Spies”

/

A nostalgic, hypnotic folk mystique lingers throughout “Little Tokyo Spies,” an inviting single from Los Angeles-based project desk lamps. The track releases as a double-single alongside the more frolicking, Caribou-esque “Augustine.”

The patient guitar unfolding and gentle vocals concoct a ’60s folk-forward charm, with shades of Simon & Garfunkel. The title-touting sequence is bolstered by twinkling keys, adding a more psychedelic, dazed component — particularly as a brief, lush vocal addition appears. These hypnotic elements appear with more soaring, prominent intent as the two-minute turn arrives. “Little Tokyo Spies” is a gorgeous, delicately crafted success from desk lamps.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2023’ Spotify playlist.
