MatAre – “Dream About You”

/

A dreamy rock allure shows alongside lyrical ruminations on loss and acceptance within “Dream About You,” a new track from Atlanta-based artist MatAre, the moniker of Matt Rousseau. Suave guitar stylings complement vocals lamenting on a perceived emotional distance, excelling into a replay-inducing chorus. “So I just dream about you,” the vocals let out amidst jangly guitars, exuding a crossing of serene jangle-pop and emotive yearning that sounds like a blend of The Go-Betweens and The Cure.

The track represents the latest success from the project, who impressed earlier this year with the delightful single “Gone Away For You.”

Rousseau elaborates further on the recording process:

“Usually, I record all the parts as a demo, have a session drummer lay the rhythm and then focus on perfecting each individual track. On this song, I worked with a Turkish producer (Igor A. also known as Surfgreenvibes) who worked on helping me match the guitar parts to an ethereal, hazy, “lazy summer-day” sound while at the same time staying close to the sound I’ve forged on past music. It was a relief to work with someone else and rely on their creativity as well as experience the amazing energy that comes from creative collaboration.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2023’ Spotify playlist.
