MVSO – “Hold Clear”

A new track from MVSO, “Hold Clear” compels with a ghostly folk and textured rock interweaving, serving as the first single from their debut EP, Proprioception, out in spring 2024. MVSO represents the collaborative project of songwriter/vocalist duo Mat Vairo and Saumon Oboudiyat.

A haunting vocal presence, serene acoustics, and clanking guitar twangs assemble a chilling aesthetic to start; the spine-tingling qualities become even more apparent as the vocals ascend in pitch. Additional vocal layering proves riveting as a subtle orchestral-like swell lingers underneath, building an intriguing momentum within its slow-burning beauty. The cohesive mingling of deeply impactful vocals, twangy guitars, and rich textural backing makes for an enthralling listening experience.

The duo elaborates on the track’s themes:

“It is a song about establishing boundaries of fairness – as much with ourselves as with others – acknowledging the transient nature of boundaries that often need to shift and adjust with different periods of our lives; breaking toxic cycles, changing your life situation to do what you love instead of slaving away doing what society deems you should be.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2023’ Spotify playlist.
