The Narrative – “On the Ride”

//

Lush twinkling synths and jangly guitars combine with serenely melodic vocals on the captivating single “On the Ride,” the latest from The Narrative. The East Nashville-based duo features Jesse and Suzie, both lending their vocals to the fusing of Jesse’s guitars and Suzie’s keys/synths.

The understated guitars and effervescent synth trickles traverse into the contemplative initial verses — “woke up in Santa Fe, thinking what could I have done differently.” The lyrics stir in urging to move past regrets and unneeded retrospection, instead embracing present time and being “on the ride,” as the soaring chorus exudes. “Can’t change the past, the future’s bright,” bolsters the dreamy, motivational engrossment.

The duo elaborate further on the track:

““On The Ride” is a song about letting go of all the “what ifs” in your life and forgiving yourself for the things you didn’t do in the past. It explores the idea that free will is a necessary illusion, and that we’re far less in control of our actions and our choices than we think we are. While the song thinks out loud about the possibilities that lie behind doors that were never opened, it also accepts that those doors were never going to be opened, and that no other outcome was ever actually possible.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2023’ Spotify playlist.
