Alison Jutta – “Like I Do”

/

Antwerp-based singer/songwriter Alison Jutta reveals a haunting pop sound on “Like I Do,” depicting the “beautiful but scary” elements of being attached to someone. The track comes via the upcoming album hello, I don’t know, out in February 2024.

“Nobody loves you like I do,” Jutta’s vocals soar amidst prancing guitar and steady percussion; the multiple vocal layers send chills into melancholic guitar tones past the first-minute, driving into a series of magnetic escalation. The trickling key-laden touch in the final minute provides an additional atmospheric pull.

“It’s a beautiful but scary thing to get attached to someone,” Jutta explains. “Giving a piece of yourself to somebody means letting go of control. You let yourself be vulnerable and with that comes a risk. I wrote this song when I was hurt, but the pain only taught me how much I cared about someone. ‘Like I Do’ is about the two sides of that coin.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.
