micho france – ‘bf imagine’ EP

/

A dreamy, ethereal pop intrigue stirs on bf imagine, the new EP from Amsterdam-based artist micho france. Soulful yet subdued vocals complement woozy synths for a nocturnal-friendly atmospheric appeal, touching on themes like the fear of dying alone within “uh” and the search for personal meaning on the hypnotic “sun.” Loneliness and anxiety are explored with artful engagement alongside the intoxicatingly serene aesthetic, crafted entirely from the artist’s bedroom.

The EP’s exposure of the human condition, and the universal longing for connection, resonates with consistency throughout. The EP’s title track is especially gorgeous, swelling from subdued multi-layered vocal minimalism — “feels like I’m drowning when I wake up full of anxiety,” — into a soulfully emotive expanse, sending chills and reminding aesthetically of FKA twigs. “pathetic” caps off the EP with an R&B flair, representing one of the more rhythmically upfront productions within; it’s another entrancing stylistic success, on an EP full of successes.

“sun” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
