Noh Kitty – “It’s Not the Same”

/

Colorado-based artist Noh Kitty projects an ample rock mystique on “It’s Not the Same.” A swell of guitar distortion and steady vocals concoct a ’90s alt-rock nostalgia, then venturing into an eerie series of guitar twangs (which conjures Eyes Wide Shut mystique, tonally). The jumping-between distorted ferocity and haunting cinematic engrossment makes for a climactic impact throughout. “It’s not the same” various vocal layers project amidst the frolicking guitar tones.

“It’s Not the Same” is a firm, stylish success with compelling tonal builds. Noh Kitty explains: “It’s a song based on chiming guitar parts backed by an 808 drum machine playing non-808ish rhythms and formally segmented by some bits of fuzzy metal, topped with a tuneful melody and vocal harmonies.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.
