Xy bird – “Had No Words”

/

A soulful pop entrancement compels on “Had No Words,” the latest from London-based duo Xy bird. Daisy’s dynamic vocal presence — spanning from the suave title-touting refrain to spirited verses — is complemented by Andrew’s stellar guitar work, consuming in both understated reflections and bluesy scorching, evident in the finale. They describe the single as “really about the frustration with not being able to represent yourself accurately in the right moment.”

Alongside mellow guitar reflections and a wordless vocal backing lushness, a gorgeous vocal lead lets out “didn’t think that you could hear me, it didn’t come out very clearly,” — conveying the feeling of emotions so strong that they’re hard to put into words. A funky bass line emerges during the “had no words,” refrain, hooking firmly. A soaring vocal touch at mid-point adorns the refrain, emitting an enthralling soulful quality into the “you walked,” shift, preceding a delectable guitar emphasis in the conclusion. “Had No Words” is a wholly memorable showing from Xy bird.
