Movie Club – ‘Great White’

/

California-based duo Movie Club show a heady instrumental rock sound throughout their second full-length album, Great White. The duo of drummer Jessamyn Violet and guitarist Vince Cuneo lead a gripping sound on the release, which also includes mixing from Mark Rains, in addition to Tim Lefebvre on bass and David Ralicke on horns and flute.

Coming off their “Psychedelic Circus” Hollywood residency in the wake of the project’s 5-year anniversary, Movie Club strut their commanding rock ferocity on the new album, released today. Among the numerous highlights, “Spinner” immerses with a debonair guitar-driven allure, with a lingering tone at the two-minute turn excelling into further surf-tinged ferocity.

The album’s strengths continue on stellar display from there. “Reef” emphasizes Cuneo’s compelling tonal variety in their guitar work, in its range from murky low-pitched grumbles into vibrant escalations, while the rhythmic propulsions within “Galapagos” put Jessamyn Violet’s entrancing drum work on display.
