Tall Poppies – “World Keeps Spinning”

/

A new single from London-based band Tall Poppies, “World Keeps Spinning” is a timely success — ruminating on the hectic, uncertain components of life alongside magnetic string infusions and a sturdy rock/pop backbone. “We wrote the song as a means to bring some comfort and uplift at a time when everything feels a bit shaky,” the band explains. “We also wanted a tune that could keep the dance floor going at our live shows with a message that is timeless. When it came to writing we were really inspired by Stevie Nicks’ poetic style and the strings of Studio 54.”

Debonair guitars and a steady bass undercurrent drive into an initially understated vocal presence. The gradual expanse plays with stellar captivation. “Breathe in, breathe out, your time is now,” the vocals launch into spirited string pulses and multi-layered vocal enthusiasm. Lyrical conveying of a world in constant rotation, and the struggle to always keep up, plays poignantly — capturing the hectic rush (around this time of year especially) of life. “World Keeps Spinning” has an antidote-like effect in its acknowledgment of chaos, set against a lushly melodic vocal lead and vibrant accompanying instrumentation.

The band takes the stage tonight at The Macbeth in London, to celebrate the release.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.
