The Feels – “I’m Not That Guy”

/

A funky pop charisma enamors on “I’m Not That Guy,” a recent single from Long Island-based duo The Feels. Danny Ayala and Andy Ballereua craft an enticing sound throughout, melding a classic soul-pop arsenal a la The Style Council with modern pop touching stones like Bruno Mars. A title-touting sequence proves especially compelling at the conclusion, as tender guitar stylings emerge alongside the snappy rhythmic appeal.

A symphonic-feeling intrigue quickly gives way to funky bass and bouncy keys, as vocals admit “I know there’s something wrong,” into a confident spirit emitting “I don’t regret it.” The arrival of the central hook, reassuring that “I’m not that guy,” who wastes one’s time, proves delectably replay-inducing. The track is a further showcase of The Feels’ aesthetical immediacy and funk-pop fervor, following 2021 debut single “Your Mind.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2023’ Spotify playlist.
