phin – “you would never fall in love with me”

/

A lush, delicately evolving debut single from phin, “you would never fall in love with me” crafts a late-night electronic sound — with later brass insertions — amidst a hypnotic title-touting refrain. The repeating lyrical emphasis furthers the message “that self-love is the foundation for all love,” resulting in a striking production from phin, originally from a small town in Vermont and creating music since 2013.

Subdued vocals and a simmering synth tone intertwine initially, emitting an endearing sparseness into the glistening synth-touched central refrain. Aspirations for betterment and reflections on the past — “I was 17, eyes wide open,” — exude a starry-eyed nostalgia and sense of yearning into the riveting finale, with brassy segments adding further to the intoxicating soundscape. “you would never fall in love with me” is a thoroughly memorable debut from phin.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
