BC Smith – “Ashes”

/

The debut track from Los Angeles-based solo artist BC Smith, “Ashes” engrosses with a serenely atmospheric power. Smith has also worked extensively as a film composer, scoring 45+ films, and their attention to sonic detail shows throughout the riveting “Ashes.” Acoustic guitars, modular synthesizers, piano, and orchestral flourishes combine for a compelling track, which Smith describes as “a musical narrative that reflects my personal journey, a tone poem of sonic exploration and layers of emotion.”

“Ashes” begins with a tactful sense of momentum. Bristling acoustics are complemented by wintry piano touches, crafting a hypnotic and patiently unveiling soundscape. A serene string-laden chill embraces past the first minute, adding a sense of cinematic warmness. The finger-picked guitar movements remain a continuous force throughout, adding to the meditative glow. Flickering tones evolve into the four-minute turn, fading like a radar in static into a satiating conclusion. “Ashes” is a masterclass in atmosphere from BC Smith.

This track is featured on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Obscure Ambient’ Spotify playlist.
