Coat – ‘Coat’ EP

The self-titled EP from Oklahoma City-based band Coat touts a strongly melodic rock appeal with satiating structural swells, from the sweltering blues-touched suaveness within “Teeth” to the dreamy entrancement of opening track “Back To Bite.” The latter kicks off the EP with dazzling qualities, as chilly vocals and serene synths build into ardent guitar swipes and an uptick in vocal enthusiasm.

Meanwhile, “Teeth” is especially exemplary of the band’s dynamic appeal, co-existing psych-rock, bluesy nostalgia, and dream-pop lushness with seamless cohesion. Also impressing, “Change” showcases the band’s mellower tendencies, channeling an ethereal engrossment as bouncy bass and multi-layered vocal segments result in spine-tingling effects during the “do it over,” refrain. The Coat EP firmly showcases a band destined for a quick ascent.

These and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
