A grippingly beautiful convergence of eerie strings and dreamy pop momentum succeeds on “Coincidence,” a strikingly successful debut single from San Diego-based artist Danny Chau. “This song is dedicated to someone caught in a multi level marketing affair,” Chau explains.
“Scared to check your balance,” lush vocals let out amidst chilly acoustics and a slight whimpering of strings. “Don’t waste your time, in worlds that bet against you in coincidence schemes,” Chau cautions during the gripping chorus, with chillingly cinematic strings and playful keys both adorning the consuming lead-in to the subsequent verses. There’s a hint of darkly entrancing folk in the chorus, moving beyond the initial dream-pop aesthetical pursuits into a dynamic aesthetical engrossment; the dash of synths at 02:15 also impress in this sense. “Coincidence” is an atmospheric, standout debut from Danny Chau.
