Roni Amir – “Why?”

/

“Why?” is a powerful, personal single from Israel-based artist Roni Amir. A soulful, bluesy vocal lead stirs alongside suave keys and jazzy percussion, emitting a mellow pop sound alongside affecting lyrical pursuits. Roni wrote the track following the terrorist attack on Israel on October 7th, and the result is one of emotive introspection that emphasizes the strength of the human spirit, especially when confronted with adversity.

While the track takes direct influence from the horrific attack on Israel, there’s a universal message within that explores the human spirit as well. “The war has taken over fast, but still, they pray to find you,” vocalist Shiri Yahav sings, emitting a soaring captivation amidst the laid-back keys and caressing string-like backing. “There’s nothing but depression, aggression,” Yahav continues, bemoaning a continuous sense of strife in society, and the innocent victims that often fall prey to those in power.

“Why?” is an affecting, poignant success, sending chills in its depiction of how the human spirit can overcome adversity even in the face of evil, misunderstanding, and corruption.

This and other tracks can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Indie Soul’ Spotify playlist.
