Timmy Milner – “2009”

/

Spanning from lush retrospection to a rousing rock expansion, “2009” is a recent single from Timmy Milner. Nostalgic yearning is palpable in the lyrical reflections, with the piano-touched “all these people love me, but I’m too hung up to see,” arrival embracing alongside distorted guitars and a compelling sense of grandiosity. References to taking pictures with timers precedes this, setting an amiably throwback thematic depiction. “2009” represents the first single from Milner’s upcoming album, Winning Time.

Milner — who grew up in Colorado and is now based in Los Angeles — elaborates further on the track’s inspirations:

“The idea behind 2009 came from Instagram. My friend Rachel posted “Taking pictures using timers, I’ve got too much time” in a throwback post and it inspired the song’s hook. Many of my friends requested the recording after hearing 2009 played at shows. In 2021, we began recording drums on tape and later finished it at my home studio in 2023 in LA. Jason Soda mixed the record at Palomino Sound in Boyle Heights. I’m excited to finally share it with Spotify and the world.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
