Drawing Mazes – ‘Living with Friction’ EP

Emphasizing the vitality of human connection within an array of styles, from folk-pop spiritedness to hooky rock, the Living with Friction EP is a success from Drawing Mazes. The project’s debut EP emphasizes the quality songwriting of Chris Pusinelli, who produces from home and lends vocals, guitars, and keyboards. He also worked remotely with a backing band, who contribute bass, trumpet, drums, piano, and upright bass.

The aforementioned trumpet shines on standout track “Stay Loose,” which melds suave guitars alongside chilly keys and the emotively affecting vocals. Lyrically, the track stirs in its valuing of “finding flow with someone to best capture those moments of true connection.” Preceding this, opening track “Planning an Escape” conjures a Sufjan Stevens reminiscence in its ghostly vocal tones and piano-laden twinkling, crafting a folk-pop enamoring.

The EP’s riveting title track infuses nostalgic synths within brisk percussion and intense vocal drives for another success, showcasing an uptick in exuberance and pace. The Living with Friction EP doesn’t let up in quality throughout its five tracks.

“Living with Friction” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
