Tyler Kamen – ‘Cornucopia Modus’

New York-based artist Tyler Kamen presents a charismatic rock sound on new album Cornucopia Modus, channeling psychedelic and prog-rock fervency. Considered the likely final release within Kamen’s “Spectacular Vegetable universe,” the album succeeds in its conceptual aim and consistently melodic direction.

The release takes place after vegetable mutants overrun Gnome City and Sunken Valley. The character of Jinx Loon, an inquisitive warrior from the Vegetable Tribe, commences on a quest to fix the Bamboozle Tesseract with the help of The Spectacular Machine, The Cornucopia Modus, and The Headmaster — teaming up to restore peace. After six albums, the story within this universe is reaching a satiating finale.

Multiple highlights show throughout. The title track energizes with its twangy guitars and rollicking organs, wasting no time in its ascent to spirited vocal work — setting up the “200 years ago,” setting after the events of Bamboozle Tesseract. Shades of Todd Rundgren show in the dynamic tonal flourishes and sporadic guitar jumpiness. Elsewhere, “The Vegetable Tale” presents a spoken-word narrative amidst prancing keys and soaring guitar work, while the journey-establishing creativity within “Jinx Loon” compels as well. Cornucopia Modus is a fitting, strongly memorable conclusion to the Spectacular Vegetable universe.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
