FALCON! – “The Sandfighter”

/

The anthemic rock sound of “The Sandfighter” rides on clanging guitar twangs and melodic vocal outpouring, evolving with a grippingly climactic glow. The track comes via FALCON!, a project that formed in early 2000s NYC, and released their first new recording in over a decade with last year’s Thank You Enough EP. They continue their strong return here, catapulted by active songwriting the past two years; the band members recorded that EP at the Panoramic House in Stinson Beach, CA during that time.

Their latest single, “The Sandfighter” builds invitingly. The “I’m running away,” vocal declarations ignite fully — complemented by panting percussion and twangy guitars. “I’m already lost,” the vocals continue, supported by clamoring guitar distortion. The mid-point invigorates in its spacey synth infusion and ardent guitar lift-off. “You don’t even look like that anymore,” this particularly catching refrain includes, showing shades of The New Pornographers in its excitably hooky rock sound.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
