Tomas Raae – “Jeg Glemmer Dig Aldrig”

Taking inspiration from Nordic jazz and Danish folk, “Jeg Glemmer Dig Aldrig” is a striking new track from Copenhagen-based artist Tomas Raae, also featuring the riveting vocals of Norwegian singer Eline Hellerud Åsbakk. The release marks the first single from Raae’s upcoming album …før de spredtes; its title derives from a phrase in Ernst Frandsen’s book Danske Folkeviser (Danish Folk Songs), from 1945. Raae’s melding of acoustic instruments and electronic elements drive a sound consistently compelling in its intriguing soundscapes and satiating structural developments.

The production is immersive in its hypnotic unfolding, weaving a ghostly wordless vocal backing with gentle percussive pit-pattering — all the while an enthralling vocal lead takes hold in its gentle pace. An escalation of vocal emotion stirs past the two-minute turn, then traversing seamlessly back into the more spacious beginnings. A lush, dreamy structural unveiling captivates throughout “Jeg Glemmer Dig Aldrig,” thoroughly successful in its beautiful vocal drive and atmospheric production.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Soulful Indie.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
