Ana April – “Unarmed And Naked”

/

Casting a cinematic atmospheric mystique in its swell from rumbling bass into fervent stylishness, “Unarmed And Naked” is the new single from Zurich-based artist Ana April. The arrival into a title-touting declaration captivates with sporadic multi-vocal ardency and dynamic rhythmic intrigue, driven by various percussion crafted from clay and metal. The process of creating percussion sounds, and also experimenting with a lump of clay, inspired Ana April to create the track. Alongside, lyrical themes of vulnerability flow within, specifically capturing the process of surrendering oneself to “a person, a situation, or simply to life.”

A gripping, organic soundscape builds quickly — as evident momentum unfolds via clattering rhythmic effects and brooding bass intrigue. “Here I am, dropped in front of you,” a calmly introspective vocal emits, thereafter referencing “unarmed and naked,” in regard to how one enters the world, and leaves it in the same way. The “way you will die,” chilly vocal infusions capture as such, starkly haunting in its thematic hold and spine-tingling vocal layers. “So here I am,” they continue with a more prancing, dreamier backing effervescence — continuing to showcase an artfully progressing atmospheric and thematic success from Ana April.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
