Bev – ‘Bev House’ EP

Las Vegas-based artist Bev captivates with a memorable house aesthetic on the Bev House EP, successfully embracing a new style following past forays into hip-hop and R&B. Recorded with producer Headupp at Las Vegas’ Noir Room, the EP takes heavy inspiration from the artist Kaytranada; a similarly eclectic result is achieved here, infusing house with touches of hip-hop and R&B stylishness.

“FEELSGOOD” is a soulfully infectious opener, building with gradual momentum into a vibrant rhythmic pulse. The vocal sample weaves in alongside quaint rhythmic pit-pattering and a funky bass immersion. A livelier rhythmic accompaniment emerges by the one-minute turn — with the vocal use assuming a brisker involvement alongside, satiating in its replay-inducing culmination. The ensuing “WHOUKNOW” embraces a lusher synth-forward presence, melding a nostalgic house appeal in the dynamics between bubbling electronic allure and clanging piano, which intertwine beautifully with the vocal infusion.

“GODGAVEUSNOFEAR” is a particularly magnetic success. Enthralling vocal momentum melds into a thumping rhythmic steadiness at the 30-second mark, bolstered by a string-laden backing that shifts seamlessly into a spacey synth effervescence around mid-point — before coming back into the initial, contagious house/dance cohesion. Following, “NADA” is dreamily enchanting in its orchestral sweeps and angelic vocal tones. Succeeding across all five of its tracks, Bev House is a fantastic, stylish showcase from Bev.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
