Bill Greenberg – “Swear to God”

“Swear to God” is a memorable new single from Bill Greenberg. The NYC-based artist has impressed with past tracks like “Ukraine” and “When I’m Stronger” — excelling with a penchant for heartfelt songwriting, continued here with the affecting “Swear to God.” The track voices the inner dialogue of someone caught in the throes of addiction — and a promise to themselves and their circle that they’ll pull through. There’s a raw sincerity in the lyrics, capturing both the hope of recovery and the stark reality that, for some, the mountain may be too steep to climb.

A solemn acoustic-led sound highlights the weary, introspective vocal tone and intimate lyrical prowess. “I’m gonna stop, I’m gonna change,” Greenberg’s vocals consume, artfully showcasing one struggling with addiction — though with a strong determination to overcome it. A warming harmonica infusion lingers hauntingly thereafter, set aptly within the track’s impactful music video, in showcasing the physical and emotional tolls of addiction — and also the reason for breaking through that self-inflicting cycle: the love for family. “Swear to God” represents another engaging piece of songwriting from Bill Greenberg.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
