A lush pop sophistication enamors on My Head My Heart My Hands, the new EP from IAMEVE. The project of Los Angeles-based composer, producer, and artist Tiff Randol thoroughly impresses here, pairing melodic productions with resonant themes; the three tracks within each capture a different aspect of personal release. “This EP is a soft rebellion,” Randol says. “It’s about tuning in to something slower, truer, and maybe even a little wild inside ourselves.”
The EP’s title track commences with haunting momentum. A wordless vocal entrancement swells amidst trickling guitars, giving way to an introspective vocal immersion. “Free my head, my hands and hold on love,” Randol’s vocals envelop, pleading: “Cure this hole deep down in my soul / It’s time for peace to bring me home.” The yearning for catharsis consumes amidst intermingling powerful vocal layers, quaint guitar lines, and orchestral-laden hints. The ensuing “Raindrops” beckons to “take it slow,” amidst buzzing synth intrigue — playing like a mantra for personal reflection into the anthemic pop hook that ensues, where the vocals shine with effervescent qualities in its ruminations on personal control.
EP finale “Ocean Deep” is another stunner, haunting in its aquatic atmospheric construction; wordless vocals echo like an ocean siren in the night, bolstered by percussive pit-patter and dreamy synths. Acoustics and ambient textures swell within the alluring vocal presence for a satiating, memorable send-off to this fantastic EP from IAMEVE.
Also featuring on the impressive EP is percussionist Daniel Sadownick (Steely Dan, Maxwell, Me’Shell Ndegeocello), guitarist David Green, and bassist Pablo Arruda.
