“Sam’s Hill” is a suavely impactful track from Matt Monsoor, unveiling a memorable folk and rock cohesion. The debonair vocals vocals emit a heady lyrical prowess with adventurous qualities — “sailing on an ocean…” — amidst bluesy guitar licks, which intensify enjoyably in the drive to the conclusion amidst vintage-friendly symphonic warmness underlying. Monsoor describes it as “a song 25 years in the making—originally written after I moved back from Los Angeles to the Driftless region here in La Crosse, WI.”
He continues: “First recorded on an 8-track MiniDisc, it was part of my debut collection of songs, Comfortably Lost in Greenfield Vol. 1. Over the years, it’s remained a constant, and now it feels more at home than ever—fitting like a glove to the life we’ve built here.” The release also marks another collaboration with producer Shane Leonard (Anna Tivel, Humbird), and features bassist Pat Keen, drummer JT Bates, guitarist Courtney Hartman, and keyboardist Paul Brandt.
