A stirring new track from Phoenix-based composer and painter Allan Jamisen, “Rise Above” melds moody folk/rock fusing alongside riveting vocal layers. His music first caught our ears a couple months back, with the soulful and rainy-day atmospherics of the single “Living the Dream.” This latest success envelops similarly with its palpable mood and emotionally gripping songwriting. “Rise Above” also represents the first song unveiled from Jamisen’s upcoming 10-track album, of the same name.
“Rise Above” traverses with emotively consuming developments from the get-go, commencing with an introspective vocal presence from Jamisen. His lyrical accounts of a new day emerging, and striving to persevere through it, resonates amidst a lonesome-feeling folk intrigue. A ghostly backing vocal presence adds a dreamy tonal lushness, contrasting enjoyably with Jamisen’s deep and debonair delivery. “I’m always gonna rise above,” both vocalists let out, referencing a healing of one’s soul thereafter following life’s lessons.
Moody guitar wails weave in sporadically prior to the two-minute turn. “I see my soul from outside of myself,” Jamisen sings subsequently, declaring a desire to “go out on top” following personal strife — and an overall pursuit of turning “hate into love.” A chillingly impactful success, “Rise Above” continues to showcase the excellent songwriting of Allan Jamisen.
