Boston-based artist Munk Duane enamors with his latest single “Falsify,” an infectious output that cohesively blends synth-pop and retro soul within a savvy ’80s throwback tint. Thematically addressing the high degree of manipulation apparent in politics and society in general, “Falsify” resonates in its poignant lyricism and hooky production. Mastering by Grammy-winning engineer Brian Lucey adds further to the excellent sound.
“Falsify” compels with a climactic, stylish invigoration from the start. Growling guitar distortion and debonair bass bounces pair with a visceral lyrical output — “sharper than a scalpel, you’re a killer you’re a jackal” — as trickling guitar tones traverse enjoyably. “Falsify, you can’t look me in the eye,” the vocals let out thereafter as more prominent drums weave in; the “falsify” vocal part envelops in its multi-layered enthusiasm.
The hook’s second go-around incorporates nostalgic synth shimmers, further embracing a delectable ’80s nostalgia as wordless vocal emotion resonates in the subsequent sections. “Falsify” is a memorably replay-inducing success from Munk Duane, impressing in its aesthetic and melodic drive.
