A playful, peppy pop vibrancy shows on “Everybody Sucks,” a new single from Psyclo, a Chinese singer-songwriter, record producer, and audio engineer based in Los Angeles. The title-touting commiserations combines with melodic guitar touches and twinkling, effervescent synths for a playful sound, fondly reminiscent of Kero Kero Bonito. The variation between the wordless vocals and twinkling complements, into the ardent “everybody sucks” declaration, makes for a sense of enjoyable momentum throughout.
“Everybody Sucks” represents the lead single from Psyclo’s upcoming album Loved, which “uncovers the journey from self-harm to self-love.”
Psyclo elaborates on the track:
“The more you give, the more you receive; you reap what you sow; for the world to be better, we as humans need to evolve in a less animalist way. If we all care about each other a little more and stop thinking about our own personal gain, the world will be a better place, like in ‘Everybody Sucks’ — the lyrics go: ‘some just don’t know better, and some just don’t care,’ we might suck, but we can always be better.”
