aktenzeichen_T – ‘Midnight Between Lagrange Points’ EP

An atmospheric electronic intrigue, infusing both shimmering introspection and futuristic-set rhythmic entrancement, lingers enjoyably throughout Midnight Between Lagrange Points, the new EP from aktenzeichen_T. The Leipzig, Germany-based artist combines these heady, immersive electronic productions with a thematic emphasis on global deterioration — with corrupt politics, rampant hate, and all-out division seeming to be in abundance. “It’s a statement, to put all the weapons down no matter where you live or who you are,” aktenzeichen_T says of the EP. “It’s a statement, that only music is able to connect us again with each other.”

Opening track “Wenn Der Frieden Tanzt.” consumes with a panting percussive beat — bolstered by a mixture of effervescent synths and nocturnal, industrial-friendly adornments. Shifty percussive additions in the second half also enthrall, into a climactic melodic send-off with hazy glistening. The EP’s title track then emerges, incorporating murky vocal effects alongside futuristic-set synths that would sound at home in neon-lit streets; one could easily envision this in a game like Cyberpunk 2077. The vocal-like effects meld with the blaring synths for a magnetic sound throughout.

The ten-minute “Trinity” is another standout, reminding fondly of Burial in its late-night intrigue. Richard Brook’s remix of the track, which closes out the EP, is similarly excellent — a bit more foreboding in its growl-like aspects and clamoring rhythmic additions. Midnight Between Lagrange Points is a consistently captivating success from aktenzeichen_T.

“Wenn Der Frieden Tanzt.” is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Electronic.
