Heléne Hellmon – “Little Blue Planet”

A hopeful art-pop enthrallment stirs on “Little Blue Planet,” a lovely new single from Stockholm-based artist Heléne Hellmon. Dreamy vocal introspection, caressing synth pads, and melodic piano lead an enveloping overall production, complement by a theme that emphasizes personal power — even within an uncertain world.

Hellmon’s vocals inspire to take action and help turn the planet a peaceful shade of blue, rather than ongoing tumult. Her vocals exude this clearly within a melodic, lush pop soundscape: “The world needs love, and we need light. The world needs us to take the fight. Need to step up and show some guts. Stop crazy people from going nuts.”

The sporadic piano pulses and solemn vocal ease, conveying to “find another way” when darkness seems to beckon, consumes throughout — moving seamlessly into brightened moments of piano and understated rhythmic pit-pattering. The track is a thorough standout from Hellmon, also marking another standout with longtime collaborator and producer Filip Killander. Its blend of uptempo, atmospheric pop dreaminess and powerful thematic sentiments — strutting the power of personal responsibility in response to human rights erosions and general conflict — make for a memorable success.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
