Noble Hops – “Life by the Numbers” (ft. Miss Freddye)

A soulful rock success from Pittsburgh-based band Noble Hops, and featuring ‘Lady of the Blues’ Miss Freddy, “Life by the Numbers” compels in its no-frills, melodic prowess and carpe-diem thematic sentiments. “In a world where a good bit of people seem to be a bit disjointed and fragile, I try to offer up some simple age-old advice,” says Noble Hops’ frontman, Utah Burgess. “Pull your boots up, be productive, own your actions, and get outside and enjoy some sunshine. Our time is limited. Make it count.”

Burgess’ lyrical descriptions of a “misty morning” compel alongside sturdy guitar twangs, conveying the beauty and potential of a new day. “It sure is good to be alive,” his vocals resonate, embracing hard work and activity rather than the “idle hands” that can lead one astray. A count-up proves contagious into the beckoning to live, love, laugh, and relish personal freedom. “Just give me some sunshine and bright blue skies,” Burgess’ vocals continue, stirring in pleas to treasure each and every day, along with one’s own personal capabilities.

Miss Freddye’s vocal talents come into focus throughout the second half, adding a soulful, gospel-touched charisma alongside Burgess’ rock-ready steadiness. It makes for a fantastic, seamless collaboration. Burgess noted the partnership as being immediate. “I thought, ‘This needs some Gospel truth,’ and the first person who came to mind was Miss Freddye,” he says. “She came into the studio on Mother’s Day after working a full shift at the hospital and just belted it out. It gave me chills.” The combination of her vocal talents with Noble Hops’ invigorating rock songwriting makes “Life by the Numbers” an enveloping success.
